This painting was a commission for a friend who wanted a piece to represent the experience of a weekend on the water, and the essence of unplugging and being present with loved ones. A few of his favourite plants are present, and off in the distance you can see a pair of loons, with a baby on their back; representing the arrival of their first child.
I drew inspiration for this painting from my own personal experiences of growing up on the water with family, and what it means to be at peace. Most of all I wanted this painting to represent movement, flow, and presence. The blue heron is an animal that frequently comes up for me in many special moments in my life, often while I am actively in movement, on the road, and thinking of future plans. That’s why I chose to include a heron in this piece; to signify forward movement while still keeping stillness in mind.
